Ucom Continues to Provide Internet under the Conditions of Unprecedented Traffic Increase
02/05/2018
The fixed and mobile networks of Ucom has been overloaded in recent weeks due to the sharp increase in the demand for video content in the Republic of Armenia.
“Today, the Facebook and Youtube databases, having been timely implemented in the data centers of Ucom, maximally support the increased demand for video content,” noted Hayk Yesayan, the Co-founder and Director General of Ucom.
These days not only the international links, but also the core network equipment and routers of Ucom are overloaded, and the technical specialists of Ucom make every effort to make maximum effective use of the available network resources.
The disproportionate increase in the Internet traffic was recorded on April 13, and by increasing little by little it reached the maximum value of 260 Gbit/s on April 22 and 23. For comparison it should be noted that on Ucom network the consumption of Internet traffic at rush hours usually did not exceed 80-90 Gbit/s.
“No network is technically ready to support such a sharp increase in the Internet traffic. The international practice shows that the planning of networks and links is usually based on ensuring about 20-30% reserve traffic capacity, which is more than the usual volumes of traffic. The traffic demand in the last days has increased not by 20%, 30% or 50%, but by about 300% on average,” added Hayk Yesayan.
It’s worth noting that Ucom continues to make all efforts to ensure the regular performance of its networks.
